Whether your child is picking up an instrument for the first time or already building confidence as a young musician, joining Bathgate Youth Band is simple. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.
1️⃣ Choose the Right Group
We offer musical pathways for all ages and experience levels:
Beginner’s Brass: For children starting from scratch. We provide the instrument, the teaching, and the encouragement.
Bathgate Youth Band: For progressing young musicians looking to perform regularly and develop ensemble skills.
If you’re unsure which group is right, we’ll help you decide, no musical experience needed.
2️⃣ Fill In Our Online Registration Form
Registering is quick and easy.
Just complete our online form with your child’s details and your contact information.
Once submitted, a member of our team will get in touch to confirm next steps.
3️⃣ Come Along for a Free Trial Session
We offer a no‑obligation trial for all new players. Your child can:
- meet the tutors and volunteers
- try an instrument
- join in with the group they’re best suited to
- get a feel for the warm, friendly atmosphere
Parents/carers are welcome to stay and watch.
4️⃣ Borrow an Instrument (If Needed)
We provide high‑quality brass instruments at no cost to families. Your child will be shown how to assemble, care for, and safely store their instrument.
If they already have one, great! Bring it along.
5️⃣ Come to Weekly Rehearsals
Rehearsals take place every week during term time. You’ll receive details of:
- rehearsal times
- venue
- what to bring
- arrival and collection arrangements
We keep things simple and friendly, especially for new players.
6️⃣ Join Our BYB Community
Once your child is settled in, they’ll be part of a supportive, fun musical community.
You’ll also have access to our Stack Teams App where you’ll receive:
- news and updates
- performance opportunities
- photos and videos
- parent/carer information
- volunteering opportunities
